First Cup: Anytime

June 18. 2015

neon sign of a coffee cup. Vancouver, BC, CANADA.

Beacon of hope
I find that a lot of places close early in Vancouver. I grew up in Los Angeles and spent some time living in several big cities. A lot of restaurants and coffee shops don't close or stay open late in big cities. Maybe it's an American thing. Seeing this sign as I walk past it in the early evening makes me smile. Downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Tuff Cat

photo of a cat named Aslan.

Just when I needed it most
Was feeling a bit down today and as I was sitting in my backyard thinking things in private, along comes an old friend. Aslan is his name.
I had not seen him in several months. I always look for him (He's a street cat) hoping I can give him a hug and a kiss but he is elusive. I didn't think I would ever see him again. When he came by today, it had "felt like years" since we last saw each other. Man, I truly needed this and appreciated his quick visit.

Canyon Coffee
The Fish River Canyon is located in the south of Namibia. It is the largest canyon in Africa, as well as the second most visited tourist attraction in Namibia. It features a gigantic ravine, in total about 100 miles (160 km) long, up to 27 km wide and in places almost 550 meters deep. I walked to the bottom and back up in 4 days.
